I have several folders created under local folders and I want to save them
( I plan to format). Is there a way other than export that I can do that.
Maybe copy them to another drive? Maybe if I knew where these files were
stored on my drive I could do that?

If I understand your question, all your OE files are stored under a .PST
format. Just search for all files with a .PST format and copy them onto a
CD.

Hope this helps.

It would help if you were clear on whether it's Outlook or Outlook Express

Outlook uses .pst files express uses identities

If it's Outlook (comes with office) then you can export you're mail to a
.pst anywhere else, say another drive, then import back in after you format.
You will loose you're passwords and account info, so have you're info from
you're isp handy to setup your accounts again, Outlook will export the
contacts folder (it's address book), just specify everything under Personal
Folders.

With express you need to copy the data from the identiies folder (everything
under the long number) and then back again after you're new install sets up
a new identity (that long number), same goes as outlook for accounts, also
with express you'll need a copy of you're current address book, export that
to a .wab file then back in again. The maintenance suggestion by Rob will
tell you where you're identities folder is, it's different whether you are
using 95/98 or XP/2000. Like he said, you can leave it where it's too or put
it back, just if you change locations change it under the maintenance tab
