Mr. Randy Dodge,
I am of the opinion that there is something not quite right with forcing
people to post sports topics in a specific group(nf.sports) only and
forbidding them from posting sports topics to nf.general. Seeing nf.general
is for general discussion on all topics then I can't see why sports should
be excluded. If people want to post in nf.sports then I'm fine with that but
what harm is there in posting sports to nf.general as well if there are
people who want to do that as well? General discussion means all topics
inclusive so by it's very definition no topic should be barred from
discussion on nf.general merely for the reason that some don't like sports
and are too lazy(or whatever) to bypass sports posts or to close sports
posts they've inadvertently opened! I noticed that 33 people voted for the
creation of this nf.sports but that is how many out of how many people in
this nf.general group? If there are for examples sake 10,000 people in
nf.general then 33 votes don't constitute overwhelming support for banning
the posting of sports topics from nf.general. That would be like only 1 out
of about every 333 people who voted yes or 3 out of every 1000(%0.00333),
hardly a blip on the radar screen. Even if there were only 1,000 people in
this newsgroup the math would be as follows; 1 out of only every 33.3 people
who voted yes, or just 3 out of every 100 people, still just only %0.0333. In
such (a) case/s the voting result should be declared null and void or of
such disinterest among the voters of nf.general so as to not show the true
will and intent of the vast majority of subscribers to nf.general or would
rather show that the vast majority of subscribers are not in any way
bothered by sports posts or they would have voted to disallow them! I
therefore propose that the posting of sports topics to nf.general are still
or should be allowed as there was not enough subscribers to nf.general who
were against it to get it legally banned. A little cabal of voters shouldn't
have their way over the vast majority of subscriber's for no good reason
other than that it is their personal preference
That being said I'd also like to know if the mandate for nf.general can
be changed to allow sports posting there as well for people who want it, if
in fact the mandate does now prohibit posting sports topics to nf.general
after the creation of nf.sports?

PS..........What are the consequences for posting sports topics in
nf.general if the mandate prohibits it and by the way how many people ARE
subscribed to nf.general and nf.sports eachly?

With that being said I vote to remove the word Newfie for use in this
nf.general forum.

I would also like to open the floor on a vote for new groups as follows:

nf.yournotaloudtoposthere
nf.DSLorRoadrunner
nf.ntv
nf.idontlikehockey

Thus if you feel you fall into any of these categories feel free to vote for
your own newsgroup.

The sports people started this and ended up with a new group. I don't think
Mr. Dodge is the culprit. And how about a group for best cellphone package
on the go?

What's the big deal? Now if you want to read sports, you have a group to
go directly to and find sports posts. You don't have to weed through all
the other posts looking for sports. And for those of us who have zero
interest in the sports posts, we don't have to weed through sports posts
to find regular discussions.

How is this worse?

it's no different than those who have no interest in politics having to wade
through all that. why are the 'sports haters' so special?there is no
difference whatsoever
